Eagles Excellence: Champions of the Houston Private School Classic

During the Christmas break, SBS held its fourth annual Houston Private School Classic. This prestigious basketball tournament brought together 12 varsity teams from across the region to showcase the exceptional talent and competitive spirit thriving within Houston's private school sports community.

Over two days, the competition was HOT, sparking intense battles and creating unforgettable moments in the basketball careers of these student athletes. Second Baptist School won the platinum bracket for the first time in tournament history, defeating St. John's School 67-61.

Congratulations to Christian Haskett '26 and Dyllan Thompson '24, who were both named to the All-Tournament Team for Second Baptist.

Tournament MVP Dyllan Thompson said, “Winning the tournament for us was a sign that we were heading in the right direction. We were fortunate to beat some of the best private schools in Houston, so it is definitely a confidence booster. Receiving tournament MVP was the icing on the cake. Our goal was to demonstrate that we are a program that can compete with the best and I think we showed that."

Director of Athletics Mike Walker would like to thank Coach Mouton, his staff, and the men's basketball parents for their help organizing and running this tournament, along with two SBS alumni volunteers, Grant Wilson ‘21 and Olivia Walker ‘23.

Our men's basketball team is currently in second place in district standings and are positioned for a deep run in the TAPPS 5A playoffs. The Houston Private School Classic is only the start of the success our Eagles are going to have this year.
